Geum-Sik Choi, Chairman of SB SUNBO Co., Ltd., has been honored with the 43rd Busan Industry Award, which recognizes business leaders who have contributed to the industrial development of the Busan region.

Presented by the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Busan Industry Award has been regarded as one of the most prestigious honors for regional business leaders since it was first established in 1983.

Chairman Choi, who was selected as the recipient in the Management Category, was recognized for his long-standing contributions to the shipbuilding and offshore equipment industry since founding the company in 1986. He introduced the world’s first “module unit” concept to the sector, helping shipyards reduce production time and advance global standardization.

In addition, he has played a leading role in strengthening industrial competitiveness by expanding the company’s business into future-oriented technologies. These include the commercialization of eco-friendly ship technologies such as LNG, methanol, and ammonia fuel supply systems, as well as the development of renewable energy initiatives, including wind-linked water electrolysis demonstration projects.

The award ceremony was held on November 26 at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hall, attended by approximately 110 guests, including Busan Mayor Hyung-Joon Park, Busan Metropolitan Council Chair An Sung-Min, Superintendent of Education Seok-Jun Kim, representatives from local media, and business leaders.

Chairman Choi shared the honor with Woon-Seok Kim, Chairman of Deokjae Construction Co., Ltd., who received the award in the Technology Category, and Hae-Hwa Song, CEO of Ocean Entech Co., Ltd., who was recognized in the Social Contribution Category.

SB SUNBO will continue its efforts to support the revitalization of Busan’s economy and strengthen the innovation capabilities of regional industries.
