SB SUNBO Co., Ltd. participated in the 2025 Korea Tech Festival, held at COEX from December 3 to 5.

Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and organized by KEIT, KIAT, KOTRA, and KTL, the 2025 Korea Tech Festival was newly established as a comprehensive industrial technology platform. The event integrates the Industrial Technology R&D Expo and the Korea Technology Commercialization Expo, covering the entire ecosystem from research and development sites to industrial applications and global collaboration.

A total of 82 companies and organizations participated in this year’s event. Among them, SB SUNBO was selected as one of the “Top 10 Industrial Technology R&D Achievements,” an award presented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The Top 10 Industrial Technology R&D Achievements recognize companies and institutions that have made significant contributions to industrial technology research, development, and commercialization in Korea. SB SUNBO was honored in the shipbuilding and offshore sector for its achievements in developing an ammonia fuel supply system.

The system includes technologies for safely supplying ammonia as a marine fuel, the development of key domestically produced components, and advanced technologies for fuel leak prevention and monitoring.

As the share of ammonia in marine fuel is expected to increase in line with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s carbon reduction targets, the project received high recognition for its potential to enhance operational safety and ensure reliability in the practical application of eco-friendly fuels for vessels.

Ho-Gil Jang, Executive Director, who oversees the research project, stated,

“Eco-friendly ammonia fuel technology is a key field that will determine the future competitiveness of the shipbuilding and offshore industry.

Through this award, we will accelerate verification and commercialization to secure a technological edge in the global market for environmentally friendly vessels.”

SB SUNBO is currently preparing sea trials scheduled for next year, applying the ammonia fuel supply system to an actual ammonia–diesel dual-fuel engine. The research project is expected to continue until March next year.
