SB Sunbo Celebrates 39th Anniversary

On the morning of July 1, SB Sunbo held its 39th anniversary ceremony at the Gupyeong Plant. The event was attended by executives, management staff, production employees, partner company managers, and award recipients, who gathered to share congratulations and encouragement. Following the national anthem, company anthem, and ethics pledge reading, Choi Geum-sik, Chairman of SB Sunbo, personally presented a special promotion certificate to Kim Cheong-uk, President of SB Sunbo, newly appointed following the corporate integration. The ceremony then proceeded with awards for Meritorious Service, Excellence, Outstanding Partner Employees, Appreciation Sharing, and Awards from Related Organizations. Winners received plaques, certificates, and cash prizes. After the awards, a special 39th Anniversary Bonus of KRW 390,000 was presented, followed by a commemorative address by Chairman Choi. The ceremony also included a flag-passing event, celebrating the newly prepared flags for each plant following the corporate integration. The anniversary celebration concluded with the recitation of the “10 Commandments of Sunbo Employees,” the company anthem, and the Sunbo slogan.

At noon on July 2, the Dadae 2 Plant of SB Sunbo was filled with a lively, festive atmosphere unlike any usual workday. Busan MBC Radio’s <Noon Hope Song> visited SB Sunbo for a live broadcast, transforming the Dadae 2 Plant into a charming studio in an instant. Hosted by announcer Jeong Kyung-jin (Jjindi) along with singer Bae Ki-sung and reporter Son Dong-hyuk, the special event created a cheerful experience enjoyed both on-site and online by the Sunbo Family. ▶ Showcasing SB Sunbo and Busan through Stories and Quizzes The first segment, “Noon Date Special Quiz,” kicked off with Employee Kim Hye-seon (Process Development Team 1) taking the stage to give hints for the quiz answer, “Dadaepo,” energizing the audience. Kim also introduced SB Sunbo’s bunkering system, explaining that it is installed on both sides of ships to supply fuel from LNG terminals—a signature product proudly highlighted during the broadcast. The broadcast also showcased Busan’s scenic spots, including the Nakdong River Estuary, Jangnim Port, Amisan, Nakjo Fountain, and Galmaetgil trails. The program even highlighted local restaurants, drawing nods and smiles from employees who could relate to the recommendations. Next, employees’ personal stories were shared. Kim Min-ji (Senior Staff, Purchasing Team 1), a working mom returning from parental leave, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and support she received. Park Sun-young (Senior Staff, IT Team) shared her challenges balancing work and graduate studies, mentioning a neck disc issue, and thanked the company for providing growth opportunities, asking colleagues for encouragement. The segment ended with a warm, supportive atmosphere among participants. ▶ From Workplace to Exciting Stage The second segment featured the highly anticipated “Hand-in-Hand Humming Quiz.” Employees hummed songs on stage (vocalizing through the nose with closed lips) while on-site colleagues and online listeners guessed the song title and artist. Correct guesses were rewarded with surprise gifts, heightening the excitement. Reporter Son Dong-hyuk shared tips for humming effectively, while Employees Seo Sang-hyuk (Sales Team 1) and Choi Sung-moon (Design Team 5) hosted live humming challenges, sparking fun interactions. Seo even hummed “To You” on the spot, energizing the audience. A highlight of the event was singer Bae Ki-sung’s live performances during “Refresh Time,” featuring hits such as “Spring Days of My Life,” “Cheonsangyeon,” and “Gara Gara.” Applause and cheers echoed throughout the plant as employees and fans enjoyed the music and interacted with the performer, creating a true festival atmosphere. The <Noon Hope Song> live broadcast at Dadae 2 Plant offered more than just radio entertainment—it became a special day where SB Sunbo and the Sunbo Family were the stars. It provided an opportunity to share the value of Busan’s maritime industry, showcase local attractions, and deliver energy and encouragement to the Sunbo Family.

SB Sunbo has been re-certified as a “Busan Youth-Attractive Company (Cheongkkeul)” for 2025.On the afternoon of July 3, SB Sunbo received the re-certification in the “Welfare-Attractive Company” category at the 2025 Busan Youth-Attractive Companies Launch Ceremony held at BEXCO. Following last year’s recognition, SB Sunbo was again selected as a company where young professionals aspire to work, reaffirming its status as a leader in local youth employment and welfare innovation. The Cheongkkeul Company program, run by the Busan Metropolitan Government, recognizes companies that meet youth-preferred standards such as wages, income, job stability, and work-life balance. It supports the matching of talented young professionals with companies, providing quality job opportunities for youth and connecting companies with outstanding talent. This year, the program expanded from 100 to 110 participating companies. SB Sunbo operates tailored welfare programs, including assigning two senior mentors to new employees for guidance on work and workplace life, and incorporating employee feedback into management through communication initiatives such as “Jjin Talk Day.” The company also regularly hosts the Hanmaeum Tournament during lunch breaks to foster camaraderie, with prize awards for winners, highlighting a flexible and engaging organizational culture. Europe’s Largest Shipbuilder "Fincantieri" Visit SB Sunbo

On July 3, top executives from Europe’s largest shipbuilder, Fincantieri, visited the Dadae 2 Plant of SB Sunbo to discuss collaboration on carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. The delegation included Claudio Cisilino, Group EVP of Operations, Corporate Strategy, and Innovation; Paolo Cerioli, SVP of Innovation; Michele Tornielli, VP and Head of Digital Lab; and Salvatore Bonaccorso, Head of Open Innovation, who returned following his visit in March. During the visit, the executives toured SB Sunbo’s Carbon Value pilot facility at the Dadae 2 Plant and engaged in discussions on CCS technology collaboration. SB Sunbo stated, “This visit from Fincantieri and MTB reaffirms that our CCS technology is recognized in the global shipbuilding market and that there is significant potential for collaboration. We plan to further expand global partnerships and open innovation for a sustainable, eco-friendly maritime industry.” Additionally, at the opening ceremony of Fincantieri’s Seoul Open Innovation Center on July 2, Carbon Value delivered a pitch on carbon capture technology, drawing strong interest from attendees.

The Sunbo Volunteer Group visited the Molundae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center on the morning of June 10 to carry out meal-serving volunteer activities. The activity involved 10 volunteers, including Executive Director Choi Kyung-ho (Quality Management / Management Planning). The team served meals with care to seniors and local residents visiting the center, sharing warmth and kindness. In addition to serving, volunteers also took part in cleaning and dishwashing, ensuring the site was well maintained. The Sunbo Volunteer Group plans to continue engaging in various social contribution activities to foster a warm and mutually supportive relationship with the local community.

Through the session, Sunbo Family members had the opportunity to reflect on their own communication styles, consider ways to respect each other’s opinions, and explore methods for more effective collaboration in the workplace.

“Who’s the Jegi Champion?” Hanmaeum Tournament Held

The Sunbo Family Hanmaeum Tournament, hosted by the Seonporters and Junior Board, was held on June 25 at the Sunbo Industries headquarters training center. This edition featured Jegi-chagi, a traditional Korean game enjoyed by people of all ages. Each team consisted of two participants, and each player had two attempts to kick the jegi. The team with the highest combined score from both players was declared the winner. The rules allowed use of both feet, which led to a variety of strategies and techniques throughout the competition. The Engineering Design Team 1 (Senior Staff Choi Woo-ho and Senior Staff Kang Dong-ho) won first place, while the Commissioning Team (Giwon Kim Jeong-gi and Junior Staff Park Woong-jin) finished second. Prize money of KRW 50,000 per person for first place and KRW 30,000 per person for second place was awarded.

On the morning of May 2, Sunbo Industries held the 2025 regular promotion name badge and business card presentation ceremony at the headquarters training center. Executives and newly promoted employees from Dadae 1 & 2 Plants and Sunbo Unitech attended the ceremony to celebrate their dedication and achievements. Choi Geum-sik presented name badges, safety helmets, and executive pins, while Park Doo-sun handed out new business cards. Vice Presidents Kim Cheong-uk, Seo Jae-wook, and Choi Dong-gyu delivered the traditional “lucky $2” tokens. Following the presentations, Chairman Choi and Vice Chairman Park gave congratulatory remarks, the Sunbo slogan was sung, and a commemorative photo was taken to conclude the ceremony. Promoted employees from the Daebul Plant of Sunbo Unitech, Sunbo Hitech, and Sunbo Peace held separate ceremonies at their respective worksites. A total of 24 employees were promoted as of May 1, 2025.

“Lively and Happy Cooking Class” with Families

Sunbo hosted a cooking class for employees and their families on the morning of May 17 at the headquarters training center, providing the Sunbo Family with a memorable experience. Families visiting the headquarters toured the facility, including the showroom and design office, and enjoyed refreshments while engaging in relaxed conversations. They then moved to the training center to participate in a two-hour cooking class. A total of 24 families, comprising 63 employees and their children, took part in the event. Under the guidance of an instructor, participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including whipping, sandwiching, icing, and decorating cakes. The cakes were completed in the shape of the popular Sanrio character “Cinnamoroll,” delighting the children and making the event especially memorable.

The Sunbo Volunteer Group visited the Molundae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center on the morning of May 24, a weekend day, to carry out volunteer activities. The team conducted pest control services for residents of the Dadae 5 District public rental apartments. Residents expressed their gratitude, saying, “We’ve been struggling with cockroach problems for a long time, and we really appreciate that the team came directly to help with pest control.” The welfare center and the Sunbo Volunteer Group were commended for their efforts in supporting the local community.

Jeong Je-heon of Sunbo’s Technology Research Center was honored with the 1st Korea Maritime Leader Award, established by Korea Maritime and Ocean University and the The Korea International Newspaper. The award ceremony took place on May 28 at the BEXCO Convention Hall in Busan, as part of “Ocean Week 2025.” Recognized for his steadfast contributions to strengthening Korea’s maritime capabilities, Jeong Je-heon received the award plaque and a cash prize of KRW 3 million. He dedicated the honor to the Sunbo Family, sharing the joy of this achievement with colleagues. In addition, Jeong Je-heon previously received a Ministerial Commendation in 2022 from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy for his contributions to the development of Korea’s machinery, robotics, and aerospace industries, further highlighting his role in advancing Sunbo’s technological capabilities and reputation. The Korea Maritime Leader Award was newly established this year to recognize individuals who have quietly dedicated themselves to the maritime and fisheries sector and contributed to enhancing Korea’s maritime strength. Korea Maritime and Ocean University and The Korea International Newspaper plan to continue identifying outstanding contributors across maritime industry, research, policy, and education.

“Dart Ball Throwing” Hanmaeum Tournament Held

The Hanmaeum Tournament, a representative communication event for the Sunbo Family hosted by Seonporters and the Junior Board, was held on April 30 at the training center of Sunbo Industries headquarters. This edition of the tournament featured a dart ball throwing game. A total of 11 teams participated, with two players from each team throwing three dart balls each in an attempt to hit the center target. After three rounds of attempts, the Instrumentation Team (Jang Hyeong-gu and Park Gyeon-woo) recorded the highest combined score of 570 points to win first place. The team secured its second consecutive victory, following its win in the traditional shuttlecock game at the Hanmaeum Tournament held in March. Notably, Jang Hyeong-gu scored a perfect 100 points in all three attempts, drawing admiration from fellow participants. The Design Team 2 (Kim Jae-won and Jang Bong-su) finished in second place with 520 points. Members of the first- and second-place teams received individual prize money of KRW 50,000 and KRW 30,000, respectively.

The lectures covered key topics including the importance of ethical management, the concepts of ethical management and ESG management, the Sunbo Family’s philosophy on ethical management, and individual commitments to ethical practices. As part of its commitment to sustainable management, Sunbo has established the “SB Ethical Management” system to encourage the Sunbo Family to uphold a fair and transparent corporate culture. Through the lectures, employees were able to enhance their ethical judgment and decision-making capabilities while sharing standards and practical approaches to ethical management aimed at strengthening the company’s brand value and external trust.

“The Sunbo Way” Honam Worksites Hold Team Leader Workshop

A workshop titled “Creating a New Sunbo Way! Sunbo Family Team Leader Workshop” was held on April 30 at the Daebul Plant, attended by 11 team leaders from Sunbo Unitech (Daebul Plant) and Sunbo Hitech. Like the team leader workshop held in Busan on April 14, this session was organized as part of the SUNSHINE 2027 Project. The workshop aimed to define the organization’s identity and ways of working from the perspective of frontline leaders. Nine team leaders and senior staff members from the Honam worksites participated, and the session was facilitated by Director Lee Se-young of Sunbo Angel Partners.Discussions focused on Sunbo’s future vision, core values, talent philosophy, and execution strategies. Key topics included: envisioning Sunbo in 2035, identifying the most important values for Sunbo employees, defining the qualities of an ideal colleague, and sharing opinions on the name of the integrated corporation. The newly defined concept of “The Sunbo Way,” compiled from the Busan and Honam workshops, will be finalized through management review and later announced to all members of the organization.

Sunbo Holds Special “Carrot Market” Charity Event for Family…

To celebrate Family Month, the Sunbo Family held a special campaign of its representative sharing initiative, the “Beautiful Donation” Carrot Market. For this special campaign, toys, play sets, and daily household necessities were purchased in bulk under the name of Chairman Choi Geum-sik of the Sunbo Family. Employees then participated in an online auction to bid on the items. The online comment-based auction ran until the afternoon of April 29, and all items were distributed on April 30 ahead of the holiday period. This year, a variety of brand-new products—including toys, play sets, books, hygiene products, and home décor items—were prepared as Children’s Day gifts, receiving a positive response from employees. Items were successfully auctioned at prices lower than market value and delivered to employees’ families, increasing satisfaction. The proceeds were then converted into donations, creating a meaningful sharing initiative with a double impact.
