 The Busan Community Chest of Korea will hold a launch ceremony for its “Emergency Safety Service Dedicated Vehicle” on April 2 at the outdoor parking lot of Busan City Hall.  Eleven companies based in Busan have been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ “Jump-Up Program,” an initiative designed to intensively support promising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Busan Metropolitan Government announced on March 29 that 11 SMEs headquartered in Busan were chosen for the second round of the ministry’s Jump-Up Program. Launched last year, the program selects 100 SMEs annually for five years. Eligible companies must have been in operation for at least seven years and demonstrate strong growth potential and technological capability. This year, 100 companies with high growth potential were selected from 531 applicants nationwide through a comprehensive evaluation of growth prospects, profitability, and innovation. Selected companies will receive intensive support for three years to help them scale up into mid-sized enterprises.  SB Sunbo participated as a representative export company from the Busan region in the “Shipper–Carrier Cooperation Council” held on the 23rd at the Wyndham Grand Busan in Songdo, Busan. The council was jointly organized by the Busan Headquarters of the Korea Shipowners’ Association and the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea International Trade Association. It was convened to discuss cooperative measures to respond to the ongoing Middle East logistics crisis, including the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, and to secure sovereignty over export logistics. During the meeting, key discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between shippers and carriers and ensuring the stability of maritime transport networks. In particular, the need to shift toward C-terms—enabling exporters to directly control transportation—was highlighted as a major agenda item. The council brought together 10 domestic container shipping companies, including Korea Marine Transport, Namsung Shipping, Dongjin Shipping, Pan Continental Shipping, Sinokor Merchant Marine, CK Line, Pan Ocean, Heung-A Line, HMM, and SM Line, along with 15 export companies based in Busan.  SB Sunbo announced on the 23rd that it has successfully completed onshore performance verification of its ammonia fuel supply system for ships, as the lead organization participating in the demonstration event hosted by the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering Equipment (KORIES). The demonstration, held under KORIES’s “Lifecycle Innovation Technology Development Project for Eco-Friendly Ships,” comprehensively verified key performance factors under various flow rate, pressure, and temperature conditions. These included  ▲ fuel supply stability  ▲ pressure and flow control performance  ▲ structural integrity  ▲ safety in response to leakage and toxicity. The project was carried out in collaboration with several partner organizations, including Jungwoo E&E, Hi-Air Korea, KORIES, and Korea Maritime and Ocean University.  A delegation from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania visited SB Sunbo in Busan on March 16 to tour its eco-friendly marine equipment production facilities and review next-generation energy technologies, while discussing potential cooperation in shipbuilding and energy supply chains between Korea and the United States. The visit aimed to explore opportunities to connect the shipbuilding and maritime industry infrastructure centered around Philadelphia with the manufacturing capabilities of Busan’s marine equipment sector. During the visit, the delegation toured SB Sunbo’s Dadae and Gupyeong plants, where they observed key production processes, including LNG fuel gas supply systems (FGSS) and reliquefaction systems. The delegation also expressed strong interest in next-generation energy initiatives, including hydrogen production technologies based on water electrolysis. On-site, the delegation highly praised the precision engineering and manufacturing competitiveness of Busan’s marine equipment companies.  Global Care, Korea’s first international healthcare NGO, will dispatch congenital facial deformity surgical teams, known as the “Inji Club,” to Vietnam and Laos from March 7 to 14 for a 6-night, 7-day mission. The teams will be sent to Hue in Vietnam and Sanyabuly in Laos, where they will perform free surgeries for children with congenital facial deformities. A total of 34 medical professionals—including specialists and nurses from eight university hospitals and ten medical institutions in Korea—will participate under the leadership of Yoo Dae-hyun of Severance Hospital. The teams plan to provide free surgeries to approximately 60 children. The Vietnam team, led by Professor Oh Tae-seok from Asan Medical Center, will operate at Hue University Hospital, while the Laos team, led by Professor Nam Seung-min from Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital, will conduct surgeries at Sanyabuly Provincial Hospital. In addition to surgical care, both teams will promote medical collaboration through exchanges with local healthcare professionals. Since 1997, Global Care and the Inji Club have continuously provided free surgeries for children with congenital facial deformities—including cleft lip and palate—in countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. To date, they have helped a total of 1,834 children gain new opportunities for life.  Following the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, the leadership of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry made their first official visit to the ministry’s Busan office, expressing their welcome and initiating efforts to build a cooperative framework to address key regional maritime and logistics issues. The Busan Chamber announced that on February 9, Chairman Yang Jae-saeng and a delegation of 16 executives visited the ministry and held a meeting with Acting Minister (Vice Minister) Kim Sung-beom. Senior officials from the ministry, including Kim Jae-cheol (Director General for Planning and Coordination), Seo Jeong-ho (Director General for Maritime Policy), Choi Hyun-ho (Director General for Fisheries Policy), and Nam Jae-heon (Head of the Arctic Route Promotion Division), also attended the meeting. This meeting marked the first official engagement between the ministry and the local business community since its relocation to Busan, making it a meaningful step in establishing a foundation for cooperation between policy and industry. The Busan Chamber proposed strengthening communication channels between policy and industry to realize the vision of Busan as a “global maritime capital,” while local business leaders shared practical challenges faced in the field. Choi Geum-sik, Chairman of SB Sunbo, emphasized the need for subsidies for eco-friendly vessels and the advancement of the ship service industry.  The Busan Metropolitan Government and Busan Techno Park are promoting “Manucon AX” as a key strategic initiative for 2026 to accelerate AI transformation (AX) in the regional manufacturing sector. The Manucon Project—combining the words manufacturing and unicorn—aims to foster leading mid-sized manufacturing anchor companies that will represent Busan. Launched in 2024 under the vision of a “Great Revival of Busan Manufacturing,” the project will further strengthen customized AX support for participating companies starting in 2026. On January 8, President Kim Hyung-gyun of Busan Techno Park visited the headquarters of SB Sunbo alongside AI specialists and experts to discuss AI transformation strategies with company executives. This visit marked the first case of the “AI Strategy Partners” initiative engaging directly with a local manufacturing site, signaling a significant step toward industry-centered AI transformation discussions. During the meeting, key challenges were identified, including the difficulty of standardization and automation in shipbuilding and marine industries, as well as the complexity of data management. In response, participants emphasized the need for comprehensive data asset management across the entire manufacturing lifecycle—from technology development and design to production and logistics—along with the systematic adoption of AI. Busan Techno Park plans to build a collaborative model involving AI-ready companies, regional AI firms, experts, and support organizations.   On February 25, SB Sunbo Co., Ltd. hosted the February “One-Heart” Event on the rooftop Smart Lounge of its headquarters, where employees participated in fun and engaging activities together.  Held during lunch hours, the event aimed to foster communication and build a lively, collaborative organizational culture. This month’s main challenge was the “Ping-Pong Ball Bounce”, in which participants completed stage-based missions to earn points.  The challenge began with basic missions, such as bouncing the ball a set number of times, and progressed to more complex tasks, including bouncing while flipping the ball, using both hands, or spinning around while bouncing. Each successful mission earned participants points, encouraging the Sunbo Family to take on new challenges with enthusiasm.  Top performers were awarded prizes based on their scores, and all participants commemorated the event with group photos.  Through various in-house programs like this, SB Sunbo continues to strengthen communication and unity among employees, nurturing a healthy and energetic organizational culture.

  The morning lecture held on February 25 focused on the theme “The Power of Questions that Encourage Participation,” highlighting the importance of asking effective questions to promote communication and engagement within organizations at SB Sunbo Co., Ltd..  The session was led by Kyung-Hwa Kim, who explained that improving organizational performance requires not only hard skills, such as job-related expertise, but also soft skills, including leadership, collaboration, and communication.  She emphasized that creating an environment where employees feel comfortable sharing their ideas freely is a key factor in enhancing creativity and teamwork.  The lecture also introduced the concept of Psychological Safety, highlighting that an environment in which employees can freely express questions and opinions leads to a greater number of ideas and solutions.  In addition, the speaker noted that encouraging diverse perspectives through thoughtful questioning and fostering a culture of open communication are important responsibilities of leaders.   A morning lecture examining the trends and practical strategies of ESG management, which has emerged as a key topic in corporate management, was held on February 11 at SB Sunbo Co., Ltd..  The session was led by Jae-Ho Ahn, who explained that as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has become a core standard for evaluating corporate sustainability, the paradigm of corporate management is undergoing significant change.  In the past, corporate evaluations focused primarily on financial performance. Today, however, non-financial values—including environmental responsibility, social accountability, and transparent governance—have also become critical factors in assessing a company’s overall performance.  The lecture also emphasized that ESG is no longer simply a matter of corporate image management, but rather a strategic management approach directly linked to corporate competitiveness. A systematic ESG strategy across areas such as responding to environmental changes, managing supply chains, and communicating with stakeholders plays an important role in enhancing corporate value and establishing a foundation for sustainable growth.

 The morning lecture held on February 4 focused on the theme “Explaining Leaders vs. Persuading Leaders.” Se-Young Lee, Principal Manager of the ESG Communication Team at SB Sunbo Co., Ltd., delivered the lecture, sharing practical insights on presentation and communication strategies for team leaders and managers. Lee emphasized that the effectiveness of leadership presentations depends on whether they remain at the level of simply “explaining” information or evolve into “persuading” the organization to act and make decisions. According to Lee, explanation-focused presentations may lead to more questions and extended discussions, potentially delaying decision-making. In contrast, persuasion-focused presentations clearly convey key messages and can accelerate organizational execution. Lee also noted that nonverbal elements, such as eye contact, gestures, and overall attitude, play an important role in enhancing the impact of a presentation. In addition, practical presentation strategies were shared, highlighting that when addressing complex issues, leaders should organize their messages into short, clear, and concise statements, which is essential for effective leadership communication.
