Sunbo Unitech attended the “Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam Ship Block Manufacturing Regional Meeting for the Prevention of Serious Accidents in the Shipbuilding Industry” held on April 29 at the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office.
Representing the Gupyeong Plant of Sunbo Unitech, Executive Director Im Young-sam (Head of H.S.E) and Senior Staff Bae Sang-jun (HSE Team) participated in the meeting.
The event was organized to raise awareness of industrial accident prevention among ship block manufacturers in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, as 43.5% of the 62 fatal accidents recorded in the shipbuilding industry over the past five years occurred between April and June.
Accordingly, the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office designated the April–June period as a “focused safety management period for preventing fatal accidents at block manufacturing worksites.” During the meeting, Chief Safety Officers (CSOs) from 25 ship block manufacturing companies reviewed accident trends in the shipbuilding industry, discussed prevention measures, and shared best practices in occupational safety and health from major shipbuilders. Participants also jointly pledged to comply with three key safety rules.
The H.S.E Team emphasized that high-risk hazards—such as falls, entrapment, fires, and explosions—exist at the Gupyeong Plant as they do at other worksites. Therefore, the constant use of personal protective equipment (including safety helmets, safety glasses, safety harnesses, and safety shoes) and strict adherence to safety regulations are essential.
The team also encouraged all members of the Sunbo Family to work together to maintain an accident-free workplace, stressing that “there are no exceptions when it comes to safety.”
