SB Sunbo announced on the 23rd that it has successfully completed onshore performance verification of its ammonia fuel supply system for ships, as the lead organization participating in the demonstration event hosted by the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering Equipment (KORIES).

The demonstration, held under KORIES’s “Lifecycle Innovation Technology Development Project for Eco-Friendly Ships,” comprehensively verified key performance factors under various flow rate, pressure, and temperature conditions. These included  ▲ fuel supply stability   pressure and flow control performance   structural integrity   safety in response to leakage and toxicity.

The project was carried out in collaboration with several partner organizations, including Jungwoo E&E, Hi-Air Korea, KORIES, and Korea Maritime and Ocean University. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries also supported the project by defining requirements for real ship applications and reviewing design standards.

Based on the successful verification results, SB Sunbo plans to proceed with sea trials within this year, applying the system to an ammonia–diesel dual-fuel combustion engine in cooperation with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
